Publication Day Plus...whoa, now I'm losing track...

Now I’m staring down the barrel of my First Speaking Engagement. This would be o.k. except that I share some of the sentiments of those people psychologists say "fear death less than they fear public speaking." I’ve internalized all the usual gambits – find a friendly face in the crowd and speak only to Mr./Ms Friendly. Imagine them all naked. (I always wondered what audiences thought about that one.) As I live in San Francisco, I’ve added a couple of my own: Tibetan breathing exercises. And my new fave: Get them drunk. If at all possible, I plan to have lots of wine and champagne on hand whenever I do these things. Of course this still leaves you exposed to the flying brickbats of the occasional teetotaler, but then no solution’s perfect. I keep telling myself – this shouldn’t be so hard. Just pretend you’re at a party and someone asked you what your book is about, or how you got published. In that situation, the answers would just flow. Why should this be any different? Maybe the problem is that I’m standing, they’re sitting? Isn’t that a primate-threat arrangement or something? Maybe if everyone sat on the floor in a circle, still high from their Tibetan breathing, and all pickled to the gills – and I imagine I’m speaking to a single friendly, naked individual…

I just finished reading Lady of the Light! Excellent! I can't wait for #3 to find out what happens to Auriane!

I'm on page 489 of "The Light Bearer", and "Lady of the Light" is on order.

I hope to find out if you will be speaking anywhere near my location (Portland, Oregon).

I am amazed that your books are not number one on the NY Times Best Seller list.

Your creation lives, breathes and parades its unforgettable and stunning beauty in mind. Your passion for your subject lights every page.

Your books will stay in my Top Ten list, regardless of how many other books I read, they are so rare and genuine.

Hi, pandababy,
I'm so thrilled to hear these things! Thank you so much!! I don't have anything scheduled for Portland right now, but am thinking about it. My next reading will be on Saturday, March 17, at 7pm, at Book Passage in Corte Madera. That's in Marin County, just north of S.F. – a little far for you. But it would be great if you could come.

Hi, philippa,
Thank you so much – I'm heartily pleased you liked L of the L! I'm hoping the next book won't take so long to write.

I've read "The Light Bearer" at least four times - and everytime I pick it up, it's just like reading it for the first time. It comes to life for me!

I just finished "Lady of Light" and couldn't put it down! I'm very happy to hear that there is a "book three" on the way!

These books were two of my very favorites! I was walking through B&N one day and saw Lady of the Light sitting cover side out (I always turn it cover side out now, if its not already) and picked it up and read the back and just had to have it. I'm glad I did! I was able to order The Light Bearer afterwards (which cleared up a few things I was confused about in the second book) and they quickly became my favorite books. I'm about to start reading them again, in order this time, because they are so inspiring. Your writing style is beautiful.

Dear Donna,
I am so curious what happened that I thought I would post here. I was a huge fan of the Lightbearer, back when it first came out and I loved it!!!! Except for the fact that you kept us hanging, and I didn't even know yet whether she is the Priestess mentioned in Tacitus. Luckily I kept checking every year or so, and "Lady of the Light" is finally out. Did it get published in German before it got published in English, or was that the Light Bearer?
I hope the reason for the delay was a happy one and part three is well along.

OMG, it's been out for almost two years and I didn't even know!

I had been checking back every once and a while doing a search for 'Daughter of the Ash', which is what I think the German title is. One day I searched under your name instead and lo and behold, there it was. I downloaded the kindle edition on the spot. I'm about a third of the way through it now. I had to reread the Light Bearer first, for two reasons.

One, I wanted a refresh before I picked up the sequel. Two, my 11 year old daughter asked me if she could read it. She has been not so patiently waiting until I thought she was 'old enough'. Her anxiousness is understandable, since she has always known that she is named after the main character.

I don't know if you remember, but I sent you an email a few years ago, along with a picture of my daughter Erica Auriane, I think she was about 4 at the time.

Anyway, thank you again, for writing what is still my very favorite book, and I hope that if Erica and I ever make it to San Francisco, you will let us buy you a cup of coffee.
